Job Description Summary

The University of Southern Indiana’s David L. Rice Library seeks an experienced, public service-oriented individual to serve as our Associate Director and Head of Public Services. The Associate Director and Head of Public Services will serve as a vital member of the David L. Rice Library leadership team and will provide oversight for all public service units. The Associate Director will be a senior leader for the library and principal adviser to the Director of Library Services. The Associate Director will assist the Director with the overall administration of the library by coordinating operations and services across all units and will work with other senior leaders to recommend, establish, and develop library-wide priorities and policies. The Associate Director will assume responsibility for the library and its activities and operations in the absence of the Director. This position will budget for student personnel and graduate assistant positions, oversee building safety, and contribute to strategic and other long- and short-term planning for library services and programs. The Associate Director will represent the library within the USI campus, at local and regional meetings, as well as meetings of state or national library organizations.

Applicants must have an American Library Association-accredited Master of Library Science degree or equivalent; a minimum of eight years of professional experience in an academic library; and a minimum of three years experience in library management. Applicants must have a successful record of progressively greater leadership, management, and supervisory skills and abilities. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to promote teamwork and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty members, and staff. Applicants must have demonstrated experience with successfully developing, managing, and completing large, complex, cross-organizational projects and programs in a library setting. The successful applicant will have strong management, planning, and organizational skills, innovative problem-solving skills, and excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. The successful applicant will have a strong public service orientation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

The salary range for this position is $81,000-$86,000.
