Job Description Summary

The University of Southern Indiana’s David L. Rice Library seeks an experienced, public service-oriented individual to serve as our Associate Director and Head of Public Services. The Associate Director and Head of Public Services will be a senior leader for the library and principal adviser to the Director of Library Services. This position will assist the Director with the overall administration of the library by coordinating operations and services across all units and will work with other senior leaders to recommend, establish, and develop library-wide priorities and policies. This position will assume responsibility for the library and its activities and operations in the absence of the Director. This position will budget for student personnel and graduate assistant positions, oversee building safety, and contribute to strategic and other long- and short-term planning for library services and programs. The Associate Director will represent the library within the USI campus, at local and regional meetings, as well as meetings of state or national library organizations.

Associate Director Essential Knowledge and Skills:
• Must meet all Essential Knowledge and Skills of the Assistant Director
• Minimum of eight years of professional experience in an academic library with three years of experience in library management by date of hire
• Evidence of a successful record of progressively greater leadership, management, and supervisory skills and abilities
• Demonstrated experience with successfully developing, managing, and completing large, complex, cross-organizational projects and programs in a library setting
• Strong management, planning, and organizational skills
• Evidence of strong initiative and an entrepreneurial approach
• Experience with introducing and managing organizational change
• Experience in supervising and managing librarians and library staff, including all aspects of performance management and organizing workflow to accomplish established objectives
• Deep knowledge of current issues and trends in modern academic libraries

The salary range for this position is $81,000-$86,000.
