Job Description Summary

USI’s student financial assistance (SFA) department seeks applicants for an Advisor position. The Advisor is responsible for independent student advisement and finalization of annual awards of grants, loans, and scholarships. This position works in tandem with counselors in Student Financial Assistance to develop analytical skills needed to acquire a working knowledge of how to develop financial aid packages for students; must be able to interpret complex regulatory requirements to maintain University compliance; ability to learn multiple types of financial aid applications (federal/state) and maintain confidential financial records in order to determine the correct order of application for multiple types of funding; may be asked to communicate new regulations to campus-wide constitutes; may participate in high school and campus presentations; assists with aligning financial aid policies and procedures with the University Strategic plan; and promotes a high-quality of customer service.

Bachelor degree in computer information systems, management, business administration or related field required. Two years of experience in student financial aid and/or higher education administration highly preferred. Minimum of five years professional office experience required. Experience must demonstrate the ability to apply legal, technical, or other similar bodies of knowledge. Working knowledge of federal tax rules applicable to student financial aid processing required. Comprehensive knowledge of the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policies. Ability to independently research state policies and Department of Education rules and regulations to ensure the proper management of SFA and compliance. Demonstrated aptitude for numeric/data analysis, identification of inconsistencies, and initiating viable solutions which conform to federal, state, and University policies and procedures. Responsible for continuous education concerning state, federal and university rules and regulations in order to maintain a level of knowledge that is acceptable to convey to students/parents concerning SFA.
